GameTime: Cowboys are the #1 team in the league for the third consecutive season in a way they haven’t been in decades.
The Cowboys won the NFC East last season, but are just 3-3.
In the past decade, only three other teams have posted a winning record in the NFC North: the 2001 Dallas Cowboys, the 2010 New York Giants and the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles.
This season’s Cowboys are one of just four teams in the modern era to record consecutive winning records in the division.
The other teams?
The 2011 New York Jets, the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2004 Indianapolis Colts.
The last time Dallas won a division title was in 1998.
The NFL’s No. 1 team in scoring offense has been on the rise.
Dallas leads the league in points per game (26.4) and has been the top scoring team in each of the past three seasons.
Dallas led the league with 27.2 points per contest last season.
They also lead the league by nearly one point per game in points allowed per game, which has been their best mark in over two decades.
That’s an improvement from 2015, when the Cowboys ranked 27th in the NBA in points scored and 30th in points in total.
The top-ranked Cowboys defense ranks No. 2 in scoring defense (23.1 points allowed), No. 4 in yards allowed per play (4.9), No (4) in points and No (3) in yards per play allowed.
The No. 3 unit in points is the No. 8 unit in yards.
They rank No. 6 in sacks (14) and No. 12 in points forced per game allowed (5.2).
It’s the second straight season the Cowboys have ranked in the top five in the defensive DVOA (defense-adjusted value over average) category, behind only the 2009 Chicago Bears.
Their record in this category in 2017-18 is also the second-best in NFL history.
The next closest team in DVOA was the 2001 Atlanta Falcons, who had a DVOA of -10.8.
This is the third season in the past five years the Cowboys rank in the Top 20 in scoring, points allowed and yards allowed.
Dallas has led the NFL in scoring three consecutive seasons, which is tied with the 1996 San Francisco 49ers for the most in league history.
In each of those years, the Cowboys were also in the mix in the playoff race.
The NFC South has not been Dallas’ strongest division since 1998.
In 2015, the division was a Top 10 team, with the Dallas Cowboys finishing fourth.
The 49ers were a Top 15 team and the New York Lions finished in the bottom five.
The Dallas Cowboys have a shot to be one of the most successful franchises in league sports history.
This isn’t just about winning championships, however.
The team has a rich history, and that history has brought them success over the years.
Since 1960, when Dallas won its first Super Bowl, the team has won two NFC Championship Games.
The franchise has also made several trips to the Super Bowl.
Dallas is now in a position to win the Super 16, which would give it a two-time Super Bowl championship.
The 2017 Cowboys were a part of that era and have an opportunity to repeat as Super Bowl champions, but a lot depends on whether or not they can win a division this season.
