The PSVR is not dead, according to Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House.
House gave an update on the future of the VR headset during the company’s earnings call.
“The PSVR will continue to be a major force in the consumer space,” House said.
“We believe that there will be a significant number of consumers that will be using it, and that will make the platform very successful.
The PlayStation VR is a true game console and is very much in its infancy right now.”
While the PSVR may be getting its first major hardware update this year, House said that’s not to say the headset will be forgotten.
“It is important for us to keep it relevant,” he said.
“We have a lot of work to do with the software side of things.
We have a really great suite of developers that are working on the game engines.
So we’ve got a great team of people working on that.
We think the platform is going to continue to have a very strong presence in the market.”
House also reiterated Sony’s vision of the PS4 and PS5 becoming a single device.
“I think it is clear that the PS5 and the PS8 are going to be the single device,” he explained.
“I think the PS3 will be in that position.
I think we have a great platform.
We can be confident that we are delivering an amazing product.”
